Year 1 of our Advanced Professional Massage Therapy Diploma Program is the first step towards becoming a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT). Once you complete your first year, you will be given a transcript and completion certificate to become eligible for a student membership with a massage association in Alberta to practice massage therapy as a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT)-in-training. You can also take the skills and techniques from these 1200 hours and apply them to different holistic fields. All of our classes are making a transition onto an online platform due to COVID-19.
Introduction to massage therapy theory concepts and their applications to real-life therapeutic environments. Students examine client behaviour and the therapist's ethical and social boundaries and behaviour.
Familiarization with central concepts in seated chair therapy, relaxation massage and therapeutic massage. Techniques and strategies pertaining to both relaxation and therapeutic massage will be learned. Students will be able to successfully go into their practicum with the knowledge and theory of all 3 of these modalities.
Techniques pertaining to timing, pressure and direction to increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage to release stress on the body. Through improved flow techniques, students will be able to successfully aid in various lymphatic related issues.
Basic understanding of the body and its relationship to all inner structures and related pathology involved in the structural and functional changes the body goes through.
Case studies are designed to prepare students with valuable hands-on, real-life situations and assessment experience. You may take your practical exam once all case studies are completed.
Practicum consists of over a period of 12 weeks with a requirement of 25 hours per week.
Students must complete all the classes and work associated with Year 1 before moving onto:
